Deregulation in Illinois
We are happy to offer both gas and electric services to households and businesses in land of Lincoln. Household savings..
The Illinois Electric Service Customer Choice and Rate Relief Act of 1997 restructured the state’s electric market and ushered in deregulation to a more free, open market. Illinois utilities divested their generation and entered into long-term wholesale purchase agreements with the new generation owners that would last through 2006. The transitional retail market structure during this 10 year time period included rate tollbacks and freezes as well as transition cost charges.
In January 2007, the state moved to the next phase of the transition with new default utility rates based on the results of a wholesale auction that took place in early September 2006.In 1997 the consumer only had one choice in who supplier their energy.Whether your default electric company is ComEd or Ameren, now many electric providers compete for your electric supply business. And since the service and electrons are the same, they have to win you business with lower pricing. Now offering gas service in the NICOR service territory.
